Deco Mesh Wreath Tutorial

I go to Dollar Tree all the time! I love to go there to get holiday decorations for a deal. My kids always come with me and I let them each get one thing from the store and they are always so excited. I like being a cool mom! When I was scrolling on Pinterest, I saw a wreath tutorial for a mesh wreath. I remembered the Deco Mesh that is always at Dollar Tree and I knew I had to try to make one.

Since that, I have made 3 different wreaths from deco mesh and burlap from Dollar Tree. I always get compliments on them, so I am going to teach you how to make one! If you have any crafting skill level, this will work for you! The icing on top of the cake is that you can find the supplies for less than $10.

Buying the Supplies

When you go to the store you need:

  • Wire Wreath Form
  • Pipe Cleaners
  • 3 Rolls of 9ft Ribbon/Deco Mesh
  • 3 Rolls of Coordinating 9ft Ribbon/Deco Mesh
  • Optional: Extra Sign because it’s cute!

Turn the Deco Mesh into a Wreath!

Step 1- Take some pipe cleaners and cut them into fourths.

Step 2- Get the Deco Mesh/Ribbon that you want on the outside and accordion fold the end.

Step 3- Bend a piece of pipe cleaner so it looks like a U shape.

Step 4- Put the U over the accordion fold to secure the Ribbon to the wire form. Twist the pipe cleaner together in the back. The wire form has 4 rings around. I almost always leave the biggest ring empty and start with the next one in.

Step 5- Measure 4-5 inches (eyeball that amount) on your ribbon and do another accordion fold. Use another pipe cleaner piece to attach that to the wire form. On this ring, I usually do 6 loops per section of the wire ring. This ring usually needs 18ft of deco mesh or ribbon to cover it.

Step 6- When you’ve gone all the way around the wreath, use a pipe cleaner to secure the deco mesh and tuck the loose end to the back.

Step 7- Do the next layer with the coordinating ribbon or deco mesh. I usually do 5 loops per section on this level.

Step 8- Use more ribbon or deco mesh to to the inside ring. I get about 3 loops per section of the ring on the inside.

For my wreath, I used my extra deco mesh and ribbon to make a big bow for the top. I tied it on my wreath with a whole pipe cleaner.

All the options!

There are so many ways to make this tutorial work to get the look you want! There are so many different options of ribbon and deco mesh at Dollar Tree. Plus there are more options at every craft store! Next, I would love to make one using black and white buffalo check ribbon. Dollar Tree also has so many cute ornaments to add the the center or around the outside.

I have done wreaths like this for a few different holidays, so I will share them here so you can get some ideas for your next wreath!
