Spring Door Hanger and Candlesticks

I love to shop at local stores! This week I decided to stop in at Wood Creations in St George, Utah. I had never been there before, so I was excited to give it a shot! I took all three of my kids with me. That makes me nervous when I’m in a new craft store! You never know if there are breakables on bottom shelves or if people will give you the stink-eye when you walk by. I was so happy to find that the owner at Wood Creations was so sweet to my kids and they were welcome to be there with me while I shopped! They loved it there too! They even gave them cute, little lady bugs to take home! Below, you’ll see what I picked up! I got everything pictured for just under $10!

It was Wednesday and they were giving away one free letter. I grabbed a letter P. Next to the letters they had these unfinished candlesticks and they called my name! I also found a wood tag that I thought would make a good door hanger.

I decided to work on the letter and the candlesticks first. I had a simple plan for all three items. I decided to put some Aged Wood Accelerator from Varathane on them. Once they dried, I added them into my regular decor.

I added the candlesticks to either side of my family picture on my mantel. In this picture you can also see a brass vase that I got at the thrift store for 50 cents! I just love this corner of my mantel!

I put the letter P on a shelf with a picture my Mom painted. The picture is so pretty and I thought the P could complement it!

Next up, I had to paint the wooden tag! I decided to paint one side white and add some flowers and vinyl! I made a cut file with some flowers and I cut them out on card stock with my Silhouette Cameo 3. I arranged the pieces of paper on the tag and got out some matte Mod Podge. I used a brush to put some on the back of the paper like glue. Then I painted some Mod Podge over the top to seal the paper. I did two coats because it will be on my front door.

Here is what it looked like before I added the Mod Podge
Here you can see the Mod Podge right after I put it on. Once it dried, I couldn’t see it at all.
Here it is after I added some black vinyl lettering
The tag hanging on my front door!

I added black vinyl lettering and some wired burlap ribbon. It makes me feel so happy for spring! This is just one side of the tag! The second side I decided to put chalkboard paint on! Now I can use it for anything I want!

The white corner is where I already put chalk on!
My handwriting isn’t the best and I should look into some chalk markers

I am looking forward to using it for birthday parties! I will also use it for parties to tell people to come right in or to ask people to knock because the baby is sleeping! I’m excited for all the possibilities!

If you’re in St George, you should stop at Wood Creations! I am so pleased with how everything turned out! Click the follow buttons below and find me on Facebook or Instagram so you’ll know what I have planned for next week!
